Discarded Needles (Sharps) Training

Do you or your colleagues risk coming into contact with discarded needles (sharps)?

• Contact with discarded needles (sharps) can lead to serious, or even fatal, infection with Blood Borne Viruses such as Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C or HIV.
• These viruses can survive in minute quantities of dried blood, as well as liquid blood.
• A needle which appears "clean" to the eye could still be infected.
• According to a report by the Police Superintendents' Association in 2003, tests on discarded needles found that 10% carried hepatitis strains B and C.

We offer sharps training to raise the awareness of the problem and to demonstrate straightforward ways of developing safer working practices.

These courses have been approved by the Chartered Institution of Wastes Management and contribute towards the Institution's Graduate Structured Education and Training Programme, or Continuing Professional Development.

  A one day training session, particularly useful for people who are required to deal with needles (sharps) and / or work in environments where discarded needles are frequently found.

• The Awareness and Management of Discarded Needles (Sharps) and Drug Related Waste

  A half day training session, particularly useful for managers, supervisors, staff and workers whose duties include organising or performing tasks for dealing with waste that may contain discarded needles (sharps), or activities where injecting drug users might be present.
