Two dead and three in intensive care as lockdown sends people to 'dark web' for prescription drugs

Our thoughts...

The NSPCC Helpline has reported a 66% increase in concerns about parental use of drugs and alcohol since the start of the pandemic. Fake pharmacies on the internet mean that narcotics are available to anyone looking to source them. Organisations managing housing stock should be aware of the possible consequences of drugs paraphernalia as lockdown eases and access to properties resumes.

  • It has been reported that two people have died and three have needed intensive care treatment after a sudden rise in drug overdoses in part of Wales. This is believed to be linked with sales of fake prescription drugs being sold through the "dark web".

The way in which people can access drugs has been impacted during the pandemic. The traditional means of drug sales has become difficult during lockdown and as a result prices have risen, or purity has dropped. Therefore, people are looking for alternatives, and the internet provides that means.
